Question Of The Day?
W.T.F. IS ISRAEL DOING!!? Why are they finally giving in to Palestinian demands for the Gaza Strip, and some of the West Bank? Has Ariel Sharon lost his mind!?
Sigh........that question fills me with much angst and sadness. Reasons given are that protecting citizens in those areas is draining money and resources from the rest of Israel, they'll never be able to just live there in peace, tired of waiting for a viable peace partner so moving them to a safer area, yadda yadda yadda. Do I believe all that? Some of it makes a lot of sense. What doesn't make sense is doing it and getting nothing in return.
Gaza does have some strategic value- Israel has been fighting over it for years and has been the victor. now they are just handing it over.

i can understand economic reasons, but i am very reluctant in doing so.

that too is what i want to know, hence this post. they claim it will 'bring peace' between the Palestinians and Israel and fighting will cease. that is a bunch of bullshit (pardon the language, i am enfuriated). as you are most likely well aware, the Palestinians have been picking at Israeli land for decades, and we all know they won't be satisfied until they get ALL of it.
however, i am sure that if the Palestinians don't keep their end of the deal, then Israel will retake Gaza. Israeli officials warned that if Palestinians were to snipe/attack Jews leaving Gaza, then the pullout will not happen.
the Saudis are worth less than nothing. we need to take it over and harvest the oil so we can get gas prices down to where they were about a decade ago-- for me it was $.98 cents for full service.
The Palestinians already make up some huge number in Jordan -- like 70% or something ridiculous like that. So in fact, they already HAVE a country. Go there. Israel hasn't been trying to keep Gaza. Fact is, Egypt lost Gaza when they attacked Israel back in 1967. Israel had no desire to keep it, but rather hold onto it for a bargaining chip at the peace table. Well, an offer to come to the peace table never really came via Arafat. So finally it was like they should actually send people to live there. And I disagree it has no stratetic value. It was what stood between Palestinians and Tel Aviv, etc. Now that buffer zone will disappear and we'll be hearing about Kassam rockets being fired on towns deep in Israel instead of the outskirts.
pt of clarification- do you think that Gaza has strategic value, i wasn't to sure by your comment. i think it does. if you want me to explain my point i will.

about Gaza, at the Camp David accords in 1979, Israel decided that it didn't want Egyptians returning to Gaza, so in return they handed the Sinai Peninsula back over, which Israel had also taken in 1967.

Sharon is a warrior and Gaza has zero strategic value. If and when the area becomes unstable Sharon will know what to do.
